Rohit Sharma on Tuesday batted for saving tress of Aarey colony. The Indian cricketer took to Twitter to slam cutting of trees in Mumbai’s Aarey Colony, which is the trending topic in Mumbai City at present. The Aarey issue relates to cutting of about 2700 trees in Aarey colony, a green area of Mumbai. Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation wants to cut the tress to facilitate the construction of a car shed for Mumbai Metro project. However, many residents and environmentalists have opposed the cutting of trees. Sharma was also severely trolled for his tweet by some Twitter users. Batting for saving Aarey forest, Sharma wrote on Twitter, “Even if there is more to the story, nothing is worth cutting down something so vital. Part of Mumbai being slightly greener & slight difference in the temperature is mainly because of #AareyColony. How can we take that away, not to mention thousands of animals will displace”. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has prohibited the cutting of more tree in the matter till next hearing. The Apex court has also recorded a statement from Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra Government that no more trees will be cut till October 21. SC has also ordered Maharashtra Police to release all the activists detained in the matter. Activists have also launched a campaign on Twitter named #ArreyChipko and #SaveAarey.
Rohit Sharma showed brilliant batting in the first Test against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. The Indian cricketer smashed centuries in both the innings of the match and was adjudged player of the match for his spectacular batting.
