Opening batsman Rohit Sharma has become the first Indian cricketer to throw the ceremonial 'first pitch' for Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball. The team Indian opener was earlier invited by Seattle Mariners to throw the ceremonial first pitch at Safeco Field ahead of their game against Tampa Bay Rays. The ceremonial first pitch is a ritual of baseball in which a guest of honour throws a ball to mark the start of the game.
Rohit’s ‘first pitch’ proved to be lucky for the home team as they completed a 2-1 win against Tampa Bay Rays despite Blake Snell’s creating an American League record with seven straight strikeouts to start the game.
Meanwhile, Rohit after throwing the ‘first pitch’ took to Twitter and shared a photo of his along with wife Ritika Sajdeh. “Great fun throwing the first pitch for @Mariners with my lady by my side @SafecoField,” wrote Rohit.
Here's the video:
Rohit who was not named in the Indian squad for one-off historic Test against Afghanistan is currently enjoying the break. The right-handed batsman had a poor Indian Premier League (IPL) season as well as he managed to score just 286 runs in 14 games at an average of 23.83, including two half-centuries.
Currently, Rohit Sharma is on a three-city US Tour and will be visiting San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle and Los Angeles. He will also participate in a series of cricket clinics and will also meet the fans.
