Ahead of the game against the CWC 2019 Australia at The Oval in London, MS Dhoni’s glove grabbed the headlines. The former Indian captain during India vs South Africa, CWC 2019 was seen wearing a pair of gloves which had an embroidered Balidaan Badge which bears the insignia of the paramilitary forces. The ICC objected to the same and asked BCCI to request Dhoni to get rid of the gloves. With the match being held at The Oval tomorrow, obviously, all eyes were on the press conference which happened today. It was Rohit Sharma who addressed the press and needless to say that he was asked about the question. We Will Go by ICC Norms: CoA Cheif Vinod Rai on Dhoni's Glove Controversy.
Rohit said that he did not know anything about the controversy and has nothing to say about it. “I have no idea about it [controversy] at all. I am not the captain. I don’t know what is happening with that and have nothing to say about it. Let’s see what happens tomorrow,” Sharma was quoted as saying.
ICC’s request to MS Dhoni became a matter of debate not only amongst the netizens but also the former cricketers like Gautam Gambhir and Sunil Gavaskar. According to Gambhir, the ICC’s job is to run cricket and not look at the logos on the gloves. “The ICC's job is to run cricket in the right way, not to see who is wearing the gallows and the logo on it.”
Sunil Gavaskar, on the other hand, said that rules are meant to be followed. He also went on to cite an example of Moeen Ali for supporting a wristband which said ‘Save Gaza’. “Rules are there for a reason and they are meant to be followed. That's why they are there. I think Moeen Ali was fined by the ECB when he was wearing a wristband supporting a particular cause in 2014. Last time I checked MS Dhoni was over 21 years old and wearing the gloves or not is now entirely his call,” said Gavaskar.
