The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced a retention policy for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 where teams can retain up to five players. Every IPL team will be looking to retain five players. Similarly, Mumbai Indians (MI) will also be looking to retain their five key players and Rohit Sharma might not be a part of that list. Rohit Sharma has been the part of the Mumbai Indians since 2011. Under Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians have clinched a total of five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Rohit Sharma Takes a Sensational One-Handed Catch To Dismiss Litton Das During IND vs BAN 2nd Test 2024 Day 4, Video Goes Viral.

Hardik Pandya was named as the new captain of the Mumbai Indians during IPL 2024. Even after Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, he was removed as the captain of the IPL franchise and fans did not like that part as Hardik Pandya was booed during the whole IPL 2024 season. There is a strong possibility that Rohit Sharma can join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the upcoming IPL 2025 season as per some sources informed MyKhel.

Rohit Sharma joining LSG can ease of Mumbai Indians' retention and Right to Match (RTM) strategies. The arrival of Ex-Indian pacer Zaheer Khan at the LSG seems to be the main reason why Rohit Sharma will likely switch Mumbai for Lucknow in IPL 2025 as per MyKhel. There will now be less number of bidders for Rohit as he announced his T20I retirement after leading India to the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. IPL 2025 Retentions: Indian Premier League Franchises to Finalise List of Retained Players by October 31.
