Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma had a poor season as the defending champions were knocked out of the Indian Premier League 2018 (IPL 2018). While Mumbai failed to defend their IPL title, Rohit had a poor outing with the bat. The right-handed batsman managed to score just 286 runs from 14 matches at an average of 23.83 runs. This is the for the first time Rohit has failed to notch the 300 plus runs in an IPL season. This season Rohit despite scoring 94 against Royal Challengers Bangalore and 56 against Chennai Super Kings failed to live up to the exceptions in other games. Rohit’s best season with the bat was 2013 when the right-handed batsman scored 538 runs in 19 matches at an average of 38.42.

Meanwhile, in a must-win game, Mumbai were defeated by Delhi Daredevils by 11 runs. Rohit, who came to bat in at number five, managed to score just 13 runs off 11 balls and lost his wicket at a crucial stage with MI’s score reading 121 for six. Following the defeat against Daredevils, Mumbai finished at fifth place with 12 points from 14 matches. During the IPL 2018 campaign, Mumbai managed to win just six matches.
