The Indian opener who had dominated the first session of the day with had scored a half-century added yet another fifty runs to his kitty.

This is the first match that Sharma is playing as an opener. During the course of his innings, Sharma scored 10 fours and four sixes. With this, Rohit Sharma joined the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw as he became the fourth batsman to score a 100 in his maiden innings as an opener. Shikhar Dhawan had scored a century as an opener against Australia in Mohali in 2012-2013. Gabbar had slammed 187 runs. KL Rahul who has been dropped from the series had also slammed a hundred in his first innings as an opener. Rahul had scored 110 runs in 2014-15 against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Prithvi Shaw was the third batsman to score a 100 in his maiden inning as an opener last year in Rajkot against West Indies.
With this, Sharma also joined the league of cricketers like Joe Hardstaf, Arjun Ranatunga, Roshan Mahanama for scoring the most number of 100s at home without scoring one away. As of now, India stands on the score of 182 runs without losing a single wicket.
