India is all set to tour Sri Lanka for a full white-ball series starting from July 27. After winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India toured Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series and secured a 4-1 series victory. A young Indian squad went to Zimbabwe under the coaching of NCA head VVS Laxman but they are set to go to Sri Lanka under their new coach Gautam Gambhir. Former coach Rahul Dravid has not extended his stay and he has been replaced by Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir has already had his discussions with the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee of BCCI as there are some important decisions to be taken ahead of the tour. Ahead of the squad announcement for the ODI and T20I series, it has been known that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have made themselves available for the tour. There was speculations that both Rohit and Virat can be rested for the tour given a long Test season awaiting. But given the less number of ODIs proceeding the Champions Trophy 2025, they are getting considered in the plan.

Express Sports has also reported the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee in consultation with the BCCI has finally decided that Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Indian T20I team for three match series whereas Rohit will continue to lead the Indian side in the ODIs. Selection committee has informed BCCI that they are open to replace Suryakumar as a captain in future, if his performance isn’t satisfactory and doesn’t meet the expectations. The BCCI is eyeing Suryakumar to lead the Indian team at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 which will be played in India and Sri Lanka. Riyan Parag is likely to be a surprise inclusion in both the ODI and T20I squad for the India National Cricket Team.
