Rishabh Pant smashed his way into the record books after he scored an unbeaten 159* runs on Day 2 of the fourth Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The left-handed batsman became the first Indian wicket-keeper to score a century in Australia. Talking about being in the nervous nineties, Pant revealed that he was feeling a ‘little nervous’.

When asked about he was feeling in the nervous nineties, Rishabh Pant said, “To be honest, I was a little nervous because in India when we were playing West Indies in last two innings, I got out on 92 and 92. Pant reached his Test hundred in his usual style of aggressive batting, with a heave towards the midwicket region for a boundary. The 21-year-old went to make 159 runs at a strike rate of 84, in which he hit 15 fours, and a six. When asked about his celebration on reaching the record Test century, Pant said, “I haven’t thought I’d do something like that, but whatever the expression came out of me, that’s it.”

Pant’s score of 159 runs is the third-highest for an Indian wicketkeeper in the Test format. Ahead of him are Budhi Kunderan (192 runs), and MS Dhoni (224 runs). India declared on 622/7 after Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed on 81 runs by Nathan Lyon. The Australian openers, Marcus Harris and Usman Khwaja, survived a testing spell of 10 overs against the Indian bowling lineup.
