Rishabh Pant once again found himself at the wrong of things after his mid-pitch confusion with Shikhar Dhawan left fans fuming at the talented young wicket-keeper batsman. Pant’s misunderstanding with a “well set” Dhawan resulted in the latter getting run-out after falling short of his crease. He has “sold a well-set batsman,” said legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on air while commenting on the match. Dhawan was looking good for a 10th fifty in T20I internationals but agonisingly fell nine runs short which otherwise could have made him only the third Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to score 10 or more half-centuries in Twenty20 International matches. India Vs Bangladesh, Cricket Score 1st T20I Match.
Dhawan and Pant were looking good at the crease and had already registered run-a-ball 25-run stand for the fourth-wicket. Both the left-handers had been steady dealing more in singles and twos rather than trying big hits to resurrect India’s innings after the fall of three quick wickets for less than 100 runs. Milestone man Rohit Sharma was the first man to be dismissed for just nine runs – which helped him beat Virat Kohli to become the highest T20I run-scorer – before KL Rahul (15) and Shreyas Iyer (22) followed the skipper. The incident occurred in the fifth delivery of the 15th over of India's innings. Dhawan, who was in good touch, had already smashed Mahmudullah for a gigantic six over long-on and was closing on towards a 10th Fifty. Dhawan nudged the fifth delivery of Mahmudullah's over towards mid-wicket and set off for a double run. But the bowler did well to reach the ball and throw it at the stumps where Bangladesh wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim caught Dhawan stranded in the middle of the pitch following a misunderstanding with Pant while attempting the second run.

Dhawan’s dismissal meant he fell just nine runs short of becoming just the third Indian player to score 10 or more half-centuries in T20i cricket. Dhawan’s 42-ball 41 runs comprised of three boundaries and a maximum. Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Rohit, who became the most capped Indian player in Twenty20 Internationals, set India off to a flying start with a boundary off the very first delivery. He smashed another in the fifth delivery to overtake Kohli and become the highest T20I run-scorer but was out in the very next ball. India failed to fire – apart from a brief spark from Iyer — since then with frequent wickets hampering their progress.
