Saha got injured during the 27th over of Proteas’ 2nd innings. Ravichandran Ashwin delivered a quick short ball outside off to George Linde. Linde missed the ball due to lack of bounce. The ball hit Saha’s fingertips and he injured his thumb. Saha removed his gloves immediately after the incident. All the fielders gathered around him. Later, he left the field and went to the pavilion. The new rule allows a team to replace a 'keeper with another 'keeper which was not possible before. In the first Test, Saha had scored 21 in the 1st innings and did not bat in the 2nd. He did not bat in the second Test in which India played only one innings. In the ongoing third Test, Saha scored 24 runs in the 1st innings. However, Saha has gained accolades for his brilliant work behind the stumps. In the second Test, Wriddhiman Saha took a stunning catch on Day 4 to get Proteas batsman Theunis de Bruyn dismissed on 8 runs. The ball was bowled by Umesh Yadav and Saha took a flying catch behind the wicket which grabbed the attention of netizens and cricket fans.
Meanwhile, in the third Test, India smashed mammoth 497-9 (dec) in the first innings. Proteas were bowled out for 162 and then Virat Kohli and boys enforced a follow-on. During the 3rd session, South Africa were reeling at 98/7 after 38 overs, trailing by 237 runs.
