Rishabh Pant made his debut in the third Test match, at Trent Bridge, against England in the five-match Test series. Little he would have imagined that he would see his name written in the record books in his debut Test match. Pant made a remarkable Test debut as he broke several records in his first match in whites for India.

The Indian team were in doldrums after losing the first two Tests in the series. And after Dinesh Karthik’s weak performances while wicket-keeping and batting in those Test matches, the Indian think-tank turned to the 20-year-old cricketer in the third test match, and he did not disappoint!

Rishabh Pant made his way to the record books straightaway as he scored first runs in Test cricket. The left-handed batsman hit a six as his first runs in Test cricket, which saw him become the first Indian to do so. A feat which was not achieved by either Virender Sehwag or MS Dhoni. Pant also happens to be the 12th batsman overall to open his account in Test cricket with a six!

Another record that the wicket-keeping batsman made in the ongoing Test match was when he pouched five catches in an innings behind the stumps in his debut match. His victims’ list included the names of Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, Chris Woakes, and Adil Rashid.

With this feat, he became the first Indian and third wicket-keeper overall to be a part of five dismissals in debut Test innings. For the record, no other Indian wicket-keeper hadn’t affected more than three dismissals in their debut Test innings.

The dashing left-hander played a spectacular knock of 24 off 51 deliveries, which proved to be crucial as India folded for 329 in their first innings. Pant looked calm and confident during his stay at the crease. Except for a few close misses, Pant gave a glimpse of another star in the making, and it has just been an inning, so far!
