Nostalgia filled the Eden Gardens when Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble came together during the historic pink-ball Test between India and Bangladesh. Eden, which had 18 years ago played host to another of Indian cricket’s greatest ever moments in Test cricket, saw the reunion of some of those cricketers that played the historic 2001 Test match against Australia in 2001, which pioneered India’s fearless and attacking cricket and turned young boys into men and eventually cricketing legends. Many Legends and cricketing greats of Indian cricket along with several administrative dignitaries were present as India played its first-ever Day-Night Test. Laxman scored 281 in that second Test against Australia and shard a record-breaking 384-run partnership with Rahul Dravid (180) to not just bail India out of trouble but also set them on the path of a famous victory. Reunion At Eden
Harbhajan, who took that famous hat-trick and finished the Test with 13 wickets, was also present in the frame as was Kumble, who was absent from the Test but has been one of India’s biggest match-winners in Test cricket. Harbhajan, at that time, had become only the second Indian cricketer to take a hat-trick. He dismissed Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne in successive deliveries to complete his hat-trick in the first innings of the game and later went on to take six more wickets in the second essay to guide India to one of its most memorable victories.
Legends Reunite
Meanwhile, India are currently comfortably placed in the 2nd India vs Bangladesh Test match, which also happens to be the first-ever Day-Night test for both these cricketing nations and also the first occasion of a day-night or pink ball international cricket being played in India. India, powered by Ishant Sharma’s five-wicket haul, Umesh Yadav’s three-fer and Mohammed Shami’s two wickets, bundled Bangladesh for just 106 runs in the first innings after the latter had won the toss and elected to bat first.
