Renovation Work in Rawalpindi, Lahore Could Force Shifting of PAK vs ENG 2024 Test Series to Sri Lanka or UAE: Report
As per a report by Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune, the renovation work in stadiums in Karachi and Rawalpindi for Champions Trophy 2025 could force the PCB to shift PAK vs ENG Test series to UAE or Sri Lanka.
The Pakistan national cricket team is going through a rough patch in international cricket and suffered a loss by 2-0 against Bangladesh in the home Test series. However, apart from losing the series, the second Test was shifted from Karachi to Rawalpindi. The reason behind the same was the renovation of the National Bank Stadium due to the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2024. Pakistan are all set to clash against England in a three-match home series set to begin from October 7 in Multan. The other two Tests will be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi respectively. Leaving Multan, Rawalpindi and Karachi are among the three venues which will host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As the stadiums in Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore are undergoing renovations, this can force the shifting of the PAK vs ENG Test series to UAE or Sri Lanka. If the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) pause the construction work to accommodate the series, this will surely impact their readiness for the upcoming mega event. Before the arrival of the English team, England Barmy Army is expected to arrive early, and hosting the Test series without a crowd will not be a feasible option. As per a report by Pakistan's new outlet The Express Tribune, the PCB could look for UAE or Sri Lanka as the option for organising the PAK vs ENG Test series if renovation work in Karachi and Rawalpindi becomes a barrier. However, the UAE is hosting the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 as well which might be due to which PCB may be able to organise the series. Apart from this, Sri Lanka is another option for PCB to organise the PAK vs ENG Test series. Though, any final call regarding the same will be taken with discussions from the ECB.
