Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowlers upped their game to deliver an impressive win for their side. Chasing 168, Mumbai Indians were restricted to 153 for seven in their allotted 20 overs. Tim Southee and Mohammed Siraj kept it tight towards the end and made sure RCB defends the target. With this win, the Virat Kohli-led RCB now moves to the fifth spot on the IPL 2018 points table while MI slip to seventh.
Mumbai’s chase started on a shaky note as they lost three wickets inside the powerplay with just 21 runs on the board. While Southee removed Ishan Kishan, Umesh Yadav jolted MI with back to back wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma. After these three wickets, things got difficult for MI. Kieron Pollard was then dismissed in the eighth over and that further dented Mumbai Indians. While wickets kept falling JP Duminy tried to hold one end, but he too was sent back after scoring 23.
Pandya brother then kept MI in the hunt with a half-century stand but failed to take their side home. The duo was separated in the penultimate over when Krunal was dismissed leaving MI 28 to win from nine balls. The brothers had added 56 runs for the sixth wicket.
Needing 25 from the last over, Southee had Hardik caught at long-on on the first ball and that sealed the game for RCB.
Earlier, put to bat, RCB managed to crawl to 167 after Colin de Grandhomme provided the late flourish as he scored 10-ball 23. Manan Vohra, who started aggressively, was top-scorer for his side with 31-ball 45.
