Dale Steyn removed Shane Watson and Fat du Plessis in the first over to dent CSK upfront. The Super Kings lost two more wickets and were left tottering at 28 for four. CSK, however, lost Rayudu and others as Dhoni kept fighting a lone battle. CSK were left to get 26 off the final over and Dhoni did well to smash 24 runs off five balls. The CSK skipper smashed Umesh Yadav for three sixes, a four and a double. Needing two off the final ball, Umesh bowled a slower one which Dhoni missed. This is RCB's second one-run win in the IPL. In 2016, they defeated KXIP by one run as well.

Earlier, it was Parthiv Patel’s 53 off 37 balls that helped RCB post 161 on board. Apart from him, Moeen Ali smashed 26 off just 16 balls to provide his side with the much-needed impetus. Meanwhile, the win now keeps RCB alive in the race for a place in the IPL 2019 playoffs.
