RCB Head Coach Daniel Vettori, Bowling and Fielding Coach Andrew McDonald Sacked: Sanjay Bangar, Gary Kirsten Likely Replacements Ahead of IPL 2019, Says Report
With a star-studded line-up that boasts of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, RCB won only 6 of their 14 matches in the league. RCB failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished the IPL 2018 ending up on 6th position.
One of the most glamorous teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has gone for a complete revamp ahead of the next edition of the cash-rich cricket league. The RCB think-thank has laid off a lot of individuals, be it their coaches or support staff members, as per news reports.
As per a Mumbai Mirror report, it is being said that New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori has been sacked from his position of Head Coach of RCB by the Diageo management – the entity that owns the franchise. Along with him, those who have faced the axe are their batting and fielding coach Trent Woodhill (Australia), and bowling coach Andrew McDonald (Australia).
Sanjay Bangar, who is working as India’s assistant coach currently, is the most likely replacement as RCB’s Head Coach if reports are to be believed. However, Bangar’s name is expected to prop up for the job, then the conflict of interest clause would come as a hindrance for his appointment.
The same clause had made Rahul Dravid end his association with Delhi Daredevils (DD), and stopped India’s Head Coach Ravi Shastri from being a part of commentary team in the previous edition of IPL.
Another name that is doing the rounds is that of former India coach, Gary Kirsten. The former South African cricketer was associated with the RCB franchise as batting consultant, last year.
The replacements for the same and their appointments are likely to be made in a week’s time, as per the report. Ashish Nehra, who joined the franchise as a bowling consultant last year, will be continuing in the same role.
With a star-studded line-up that boasts of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, RCB won only 6 of their 14 matches in the league. RCB failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished the IPL 2018 ending up on 6th position, with 12 points in their kitty.
