He came to the crease following the dismissal of Hardik Pandya (32) in the 31st over. What followed will be remembered for a long time in Indian cricket’s history. Not just did Jadeja stitched a vital 60-run partnership with MS Dhoni (34*) but also took the role of fetching the big hits.
It was Jadeja’s first half-century in over four years. His last fifty in ODI came against England when he scored a fine 87 runs (highest score) in Headingley Leeds in 2014. He was part of India’s World Cup team in 2015 but failed to produce anything substantial.
Jadeja was also initially left of India’s playing XI in CWC 2019. But was selected for the semi-final game after bowling well in the victory over Sri Lanka, which was also India’s final league game. He had had a terrific game against New Zealand giving away just 34 runs in 10 overs while also picking up a wicket. It was also his brilliant direct throw that removed Ross Taylor (74) before the 30-year-old also took a good catch at mid-wicket to dismiss Tom Latham.
