Ravichandran Ashwin now ranks amongst top 10 Test bowlers in ICC rankings after his brilliant bowling performance against South Africa in the 1st Test played at Visakhapatnam from Oct 2, 2019. India won that Test match by 203 runs where right arm off-spinner Ashwin bagged total eight wickets from both innings with figures of 7/145 and 1/44. However, Ashwin got this record to his name only after 7 years 332 days of his debut, while Muralitharan bagged 350 wickets after 9 years 9 days of his debut. Apart from this, the Sri Lankan legendary spinner and Ashwin has taken 10 wickets in a single match on seven occasions.

Ravichandran Ashwin dented Proteas batting line up in the 1st inning after India declared their inning at 502/7. Ashwin had the figure of 7/145 in the 1st inning where he took the important wicket of Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock.
