The Chennai cricketer first displayed his qualities in the series win against Australia and has now elevated his game to an entirely new level during the ongoing home series against England, shining with the ball as well as the bat. Raman Subramaniam, born in Chennai, is an Arjuna Award table tennis player. He won the first-ever Commonwealth Gold for India at the Commonwealth Championships in 1997. Raman also represented India at the Sydney Summer Olympics 2000.
Ravi Ashwin has been the key player for India in the series against England, playing a crucial role in the hosts taking a 2-1 lead. The 34-year-old also became the second-fastest bowler to take 400 wickets in the longest format of the game, when he dismissed Jofra Archer in the fourth innings of the third Test.
Not only with the bat, but Ravi Ashwin has also excelled with the bat in his hand as well, scoring a century in the second Test against England, helping India to record a huge win and level the series 1-1 at that time. The Chennai cricketer is India’s second-most successful batsmen for India in the series with 176 runs in six innings.
In the fourth Test, the Chennai cricketer will search for another milestone as he is just eight wickets behind from becoming the fourth-highest wicket-taker for India in international format. With 603 wickets in the international circuit, Ashwin is just seven behind the tally of Zaheer Khan.
