Former England captain Alastair Cook was all at bay against Indian spinner Ravi Ashwin. The spinner accounted for Cook’s wicket not just once but twice in the ongoing first Test between India and England at Edgbaston. And to make things worse for Cook, he was dismissed in a similar fashion on both the occasions. In the first innings, Cook was dismissed with England’s score reading 26 and in second innings the home side had only nine runs on board before Ashwin removed Cook.
Cook was bowled on both the occasions as the ball zipped past the outside edge. The ball went on the hit the off-stump on both the accounts. This was something we saw regularly on England’s tour of India, but playing at home, Cook still hasn’t found a way to negotiate Ashwin. In first innings, the left-hander scored 13 off 28 balls before being sent back and in second innings the opener failed to open his account despite lasting 14 balls. Meanwhile, at lunch on day three, India are in a comfortable position. The home side were towering at 86 for six. Ashwin once again was amongst the wickets. Apart from fast-bowler was rewarded for bowling some tight line as he scalped three wickets as well.
