Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan’s success is one of the great stories in world cricket. The spinner, who made his debut in 2015, is now the owner of one more record. Rashid while playing against Windies in the final of the ICC World Cup Qualifier 2018 became the fastest bowler to pick 100 ODI (One-Day International) wickets. Number three batsman Shai Hope was Rashid’s 100 wicket in ODIs. And it took Rashid just 44 ODIs to achieve the feat. He broke Australian pacer Mitchell Starc’s record who took 52 matches to scalp his 100th wicket.

Rashid, who is currently ranked number two on ICC ODI bowler rankings, trapped Hope lbw for 23 to make it to 100 wickets. Hope happened to be his lone wicket in the game as Rashid ended with figures of 1/42 in his nine overs.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan defeated Windies comprehensively by seven wickets in the final to win the ICC World Cup Qualifier 2018. The Asghar Stanikzai-led side chased down paltry 205 runs 40.4 overs.

Afghanistan at one stage were almost out of the tournament but bounced back in style to make it to the final and 2019 World Cup. After losing their opening World Cup Qualifier group games to Zimbabwe, Scotland and Hong Kong, they managed to make it to Super Sixes and then defeated Windies, UAE, and Ireland to make it to the final. However, UAE’s win over hits Zimbabwe made the road to finals clear for Afghanistan.
