This is not the first time that R Ashwin has stunned the cricket fans. During IPL 2019, the Indian bowler mankaded Jos Buttler in a match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. The England batsman was playing greatly in the match before Ashwin mankaded him at the non-striker’s end without a warning. Buttler was left fuming at his unexpected dismissal. Rajasthan Royals lost that match to Ashwin's team Kings XI Punjab.

The incident also invited huge criticisms for Ashwin, with many fans and cricketers slamming the Indian bowler for his act. However, some fans and critics took sides of Ashwin saying that the dismissal was within the rules of cricket. The incident also marked one of the biggest controversies in IPL 2019.
