The 16th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) saw Multan Sultans defeat Peshawar Zalmi at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, in Dubai. With this win, the Multan Sultans have consolidated their position on the top of the points table.

Riding high on a blistering knock from Sohaib Maqsood, the Sultans team posted a huge total of 183 runs on the scoreboard in their first innings. Maqsood scored 85 runs from only 42 deliveries, in which he hit 7 sixes and 4 fours. The Zalmi team lost wickets at regular intervals and eventually lost the match by 19 runs.

The Shoaib Malik-led side began steadily but was initially slow in the start. Openers Ahmed Shehzad and Kumar Sangakkara scored 37 runs and 28 runs respectively. It was Maqsood’s assault, that saw Multan Sultans post a total of 183, which is also the highest team score in the following T20 tournament. Maqsood’s innings of 85 runs, is now the highest individual score in PSL 2018.

For Peshawar Zalmi, their innings didn’t begin as they might have desired. They lost both openers Kamran Akmal and Andre Fletcher back in the hut in the space of 4 overs. Dwayne Smith couldn’t contribute much as he was dismissed on only 18 runs. Bowlers Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Irfan, and Kieron Pollard picked up wickets, with Tanvir the highlight of them all. Tanvir gave only 14 runs in his quota of 4 overs and scalped 3 crucial wickets. Pollard gave away too many runs (37) in his 4 overs but managed to take 3 wickets too.

Sohaib Maqsood was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his stupendous batting. With this win, the Multan Sultans team now have 9 points from 6 games. They are on the top of the points table, whereas Peshawar Zalmi is on the third spot. Peshawar Zalmi has won 3 matches and lost as many matches so far in the 2018 PSL.
