After sustaining a shoulder injury during the third ODI against Australia, Shikhar Dhawan is doubtful for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and Shaw could well replace the southpaw in the national team. The first T20I of the five-match series will be played on January 24 at the Eden Park in Auckland. In the absence of Dhawan, KL Rahul can also open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma. However, In New Zealand conditions, it is wise to go with three openers and Shaw could well fill that spot. Also, with the first unofficial ODI between New Zealand A and India A being be played on January 22, Shaw has another great chance to put up a brilliant show and get a spot in the senior team.
