When Prithvi Shaw’s name was included in the two-match Test Series of India vs West Indies, little did the people know that the Mumbai lad would break so many records in his debut match. In the first match itself at the Saurashtra Cricket Association, Rajkot scored a century after KL Rahul departed on the score of 0 in the first over itself. He made 134 runs off 154 balls with 19 fours and no maximum. In the second match at Hyderabad, Shaw once again scored a half-century and got out on 70 runs. The youngster became the Man of the Series award for his blistering performances in two tests. With this, he became the youngest Indian to win the Man of the Series award in Test cricket history. Shaw, aged 18 years and 339 days also went on to become the fourth cricketer after Sourav Ganguly to win the man of the match award in his debut. His performance impressed many including skipper Virat Kohli and who spoke highly of the youngsters in the team including Shaw and Rishabh Pant. “The youngsters, we were looking for them to play with a lot of freedom, which they did. Prithvi was outstanding. Rishabh was really fearless. Areas they need to work, they will obviously be spoken to in that regard. But overall both those guys were really, really good. Solidifying their place in the team and understanding how to play at this level,” said Virat after the post-match conference.
