48-year-old leg-spinner Pravin Tambe will be the oldest cricketer to feature in the Indian Premier League 2020 (IPL 2020) player auction. The IPL 2020 auction will be held in Kolkata on December 19 and over 300 players will go under the hammer. With just 73 spots to fill, the IPL 2020 auction is probably the shortest auction to take place in the league’s history. Tambe made his IPL debut in 2013 for Rajasthan Royals and played just three matches. However, during the 2013-14 Champions League T20 (now defunct), Tambe scalped 12 wickets in five matches to emerge as the leading wicket-taker that season. In IPL 2014, he featured consistently for the Royals and did well by picking 15 wickets in 13 matches. His 15 wickets included a hat-trick against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as well.

In IPL 2015, the leg-spinner played ten matches for the Royals and managed to pick only seven wickets. He was then subsequently released by the Royals. In 2016, Tambe found his new franchise, Gujarat Lions (now discarded), and featured in seven matches for the Suresh Raina-led team. Tambe was later on picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but sadly he did not feature in a single game for them. Since then, Tambe has been out of the IPL. However, at 48 Tambe’s name featured in the players shortlisted for the IPL 2020 auction and has a base price of INR 20 lakhs.

The leg-spinner has been playing professional cricket for long now. He featured in the T10 cricket league in Abu Dhabi last year and became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in 10-over cricket, the leggie scalped 5/15 in the same match. Tambe made his first-class debut in 2013 after he featured in IPL and CL T20. However, he has played only two first-class matches till date.
