After the Pakistan National Cricket Team exited early from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reportedly sacked Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee. Abdul Razzaq was appointed to the selection committee for both men's and women's sides just a few weeks back and will no longer be the selector for the women's team as well. Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq have become the first victims after Pakistan got an early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. Gautam Gambhir Named New Head Coach of Indian Men’s Cricket Team, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Makes Announcement.
The job of Wahab Riaz was at risk after Pakistan's early exit from the T20 World Cup. Although he was removed as chief selector earlier this year, he was later appointed as one of seven selectors on a committee without a chief. Despite this, Wahab was widely seen as the de facto leader of the committee. Internally, he expressed frustration over this public perception, as it led to him shouldering most of the criticism for the committee's decisions, as per a report by ESPNcricinfo.
Reportedly the numerical strength of the selection committee is expected to be reduced. The nature of the selection committee is also likely to be reconstituted, with a chief selector eventually expected to be reappointed.
