Pataudi Trophy 2018: India and England to Fight for the Coveted Title From Today at Edgbaston
India will play their first test match against England from today onwards at Edgbaston for the prestigious Pataudi Trophy 2018.
India will play their first test match against England from today onwards at Edgbaston for the prestigious Pataudi Trophy 2018. On one hand, where England will have plans to win the 1000th match than on the other, India will look to spoil their party by squashing their hopes of not only winning at Edgbaston but also sealing the series. If India manages to win the series, they will win the Pataudi Trophy which is currently with England.
The Pataudi Trophy is named after Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi who played for both international teams on three occasions and is the only man to have played for England and India. His son Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi captained India in the 1960s and 1970s. Three complete Pataudi Trophy series have been played, with India winning one and England two. Since the trophy epitomises victory, both teams would leave no stone unturned to seal the series. Yesterday, the captains Joe Root and Virat Kohli unveiled the trophy.
In fact, the England and Wales Cricket Board has also sent out an invitation to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s wife, Sharmila Tagore to attend the proceedings of the match. The veteran actress has wholeheartedly accepted the invitation and will be present with her son Saif Ali Khan, the Nawab of Pataudi. Kareena Kapoor is also expected to be with a present for the proceeding. “Yes, I will be travelling to UK during the final Test match (at the Oval). I have already received a formal invitation from the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to be present at the Pataudi Trophy presentation ceremony . As of now among my other family members, my daughters (Sabah and Soha Ali Khan) might not be present. But Saif and Kareena are expected to be present during the event,” said Sharmila Tagore to PTI.
