PAK 259/5 at Stumps | Pakistan vs England Highlights of 2nd Test 2024 Day 1: Kamran Ghulam's Century on Debut Headlines Action on Opening Day

And it is stumps on Day 1! It has been a good day of cricket with Kamran Ghulam smashing a century on Test debut. The 29-year-old did all the hard work in domestic cricket and when he got the opportunity, he made the most of it. The right-hander, who replaced Babar Azam, sure had a lot of eyeballs on him and he put up a stellar show, becoming the 13th Pakistan batter to score a century on Test debut. His 149-run stand with Saim Ayub (77) was also a superb one. But England weren't totally outplayed on Day 1, with them taking five wickets. Jack Leach took two wickets while Matthew Potts, Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir scalped one each. Pakistan finish Day 1 at 259/5, with Mohammad Rizwan (37*) and Salman Agha (5*) at the crease.

CENTURY for debut by Kamran Ghulam! What a knock it has been! The right-hander has made a massive statement with his superb knock on debut in Multan. He has attacked as well as defended well and the celebrations say it all. 

Mohammad Rizwan has joined forces with Kamran Ghulam in the middle with the latter nearing what would be a magnificent Test century on debut. England have managed to pick two wickets in this session. 

OUT! Another wicket down for Pakistan as Saud Shakeel returns to the dressing room with a single-digit score. After a couple of early wickets, it was looking difficult for Pakistan but half-centuries from Saim Ayub and Kamran Ghulam the hosts Pakistan are taking back control over the Three Lions.

FIFTY! With these, hosts Pakistan are in some control now. Kamran Ghulam played a splendid innings and completed a half-century on his debut under pressure.

FIFTY! After a bad start, Saim Ayub kept calm and composure for Pakistan which led him to complete his third half-century in Tests. Fellow teammates and the fans present will be proud as Saim Ayub is performing well under pressure.

Lunch on Day 1! Kamran Ghulam and Saim Ayub have stitched a partnership of 60 runs to help Pakistan bounce back after they lost two early wickets. The pitch has shown hints of starting to assist the spinners a bit and it remains to be seen how these two batters go on from here. England ideally would have wanted one more wicket in this session but well done to the two youngsters who have stabilised the innings. 

After a couple of early wickets, Kamran Ghulam alongside Saim Ayub is looking to give a proper fightback to the visitors. Pakistan are currently under pressure as the visitors are looking to be in control.

Here are the first runs for hosts as Abdullah Shafique gets off the mark with the single. Saim Ayub is standing beside Abdullah Shafique. With the same pitch as the last match, runs will come in and bowlers will have to work hard in the start.

Pakistan will be batting first as Shan Masood opts to bat first after winning the toss. It is the same pitch as the PAK vs ENG 1st Test. The pitch was criticised for its nature as it can damage the reputation of Test cricket.
