England beat Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series after a hard-fought battle. With this Pakistan became the first team in 147 years history of Test cricket to lose by an innings after scoring 500 or more runs. This win can also give England some boost in the World Test Champion (WTC) 2023-25 points table.

England resumed Day 4 with Root and Brook on 176* and 141*, who toyed with Pakistan bowlers in Multan. As expected Root reached his double century first, taking 305 balls, with Brook following suit and getting to the landmark in 243 balls. Both added 454 runs for the fourth wicket before Root missed out on a well-deserved triple ton getting out on 262. In their second innings, Pakistan's batters crumbled under pressure, including star players like Shan Masood, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan, who failed to score big runs. At the end of play, Pakistan were 152 for 6 with Agha Salman and Aamir Jamel in the middle on 41* and 27*, respectively adding 70 off 76 balls for the seventh wicket.
