STUMPS! So, that's the end of play on day one. The play has been called off due to bad light. Such a shame, Babar Azam was looking in fine touch and will now have to restart tomorrow. Shan Masood remains stranded on 46. Do join us tomorrow for second day's action.

The play has been stopped once again but this time due to bad light. Babar Azam picked couple of boundaries after play restarted while Shan Masood was lucky to survive a stumping.   

With light not that good, England have been forced to use spinners from both the ends. Dom Bess and Joe Root are bowling in tandem now. Tricky period this for Pakistan batsmen.

Update: Good news is that the play will resume shortly. Rain has cleared and so has the outfield.

Update: Umpires will have another inspection in 15 minutes from now. If no play is possible on or before 10:30 pm IST, then the day will be called off. Pakistan fans will not want that with Babar Azam looking in great touch.

Update: Rain has stopped in Manchester and covers are being removed. There will be an inspection at around 09:30 PM IST. So, if rain stays away we could have play after 45 minutes.

Update: Unfortunately, the rain has got heavier in Manchester and looks like we will have to wait longer for play to begin. First rain needs to stop.

Tea Break: With no relief from rain, umpires have decided to take an early tea to save some time. 

That's half-century up for Babar Azam, this has been a special knock by him thus far and he is unfinished yet. Nine boundaries thus far for Babar. Meanwhile,  rain stops play as players walk out off the field.

The partnership between Shane Masood and Babar Azam has gone past the fifty-run mark. Masood is into 40s as well as both the batsmen look solid in the middle now.

The action resumes after the lunch break. Shan Masood and Babar Azam have now added 26 runs for the third wicket thus far. Sun is shining and this period will be good for batting as Pakistan look to rebuild.

That's lunch on day one of the first Test. England will be happy to have picked two wickets. Jofra Archer first removed Abid Ali and then Chris Woakes accounted for Azhar Ali. Shan Masood and Babar Azam are the two unbeaten batsmen at the crease.

Update: The rain has stopped and players are back on the field. Jofra Archer completes his over. And then Chris Woakes bowls one as well. 

Just three balls for Azhar Ali, the new batsman in and it has started to rain. Meanwhile, the players are off the field as covers are being brought in.

England's search for the first wicket continues. So far James Anderson and Stuart Broad has bowled five overs each. Two boundaries each for Shan Masood and Abid Ali.
