India clinched the four-match Tests series 2-1 after the fourth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) ended in a draw. After 11 tours and 71 years, India managed to win their first Test series on Australian soil. Previously, India had lost eight and drawn three series’.

Kohli now not only becomes the first Indian but first Asian captain as well to win a Test series Down Under. Australia, however, bounced back to draw level in the series and won the second Test at Perth. With series tied at one each, India snatched the lead back with an impressive win at Melbourne and thus retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Weather played spoilsport on last two days of the final Test and thus the match ended in a draw.
