West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran registered his maiden century in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 (CWC 2019) match against Sri Lanka at the Chester-le-Street. Pooran took 92 balls to complete his century. This is the second century in this World Cup by a West Indies batsman. Towards the end, Pooran shared another impressive 83-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Fabian Allen. Pooran was then dismissed on an individual score of 118. His knock included 11 fours and four sixes.

Earlier, riding on Avishka Fernando’s century, Sri Lanka posted their highest total of this World Cup. In 50 overs, Sri Lanka managed 338 for six with Fernando scoring 104 off 103 balls, it was his maiden century as well. And he is now the third youngest Sri Lankan batsman to score a century in ODIs. Coming back to Pooran, the left-hander has been in good form in this World Cup. Against England, the left-hander scored 64 while against Australia he managed 40 runs. The 23-year old has thus far played nine ODIs for West Indies and made his 50-over cricket debut in February earlier this year.
