The New Zealand Women’s Cricket team scored the highest runs in a One Day International (ODI) match, on Friday, when they played against Ireland at YMCA Cricket Club Ground, in Dublin. The marvellous batting from the New Zealand team saw them surpass their own record. While batting, the White Ferns went on to score 490/4 in the first innings.

New Zealand skipper, Suzie Bates, led from the front and scored a swashbuckling knock of 151 runs off only 94 balls. Bates scored 24 fours and a couple of sixes, in her inning, which saw her score 150+ runs with an impressive strike rate of 160.63.

Another centurion in the match, Maddy Green scored 121 runs in only 77 balls. She hit 16 boundaries of which there were 15 fours and a single six in her explosive inning. Late cameos by Amelia Kerr (81 runs off 45 balls) and wicketkeeper Bernadine Bezuidenhout (23 off 15 balls) ensured that New Zealand team were quite determined to rewrite their own record!

In their reply, the Ireland Women’s Cricket team were bundled out for 144 runs only. The New Zealand team registered a huge victory, in the first ODI, by 346 runs. The pick of their bowlers was Leigh Kasperek, who ended the day with match figures of 2.3-0-17-4, which also happens to be her best ODI bowling performance.

The previous record for highest runs in an inning in Women’s cricket was held by the New Zealand’s team too. On Friday, they bettered their own record of 455 runs, which they had scored against the Pakistan Women’s Cricket team at Christchurch, in New Zealand, two decades ago.

The flamboyant batting display ensured that they broke their own record, which was set 21 years ago, in the year 1997. The performance on Friday confirmed the batting prowess the Kiwis’ have possessed over the years.

The following score of 490 runs in an ODI match is not only highest score in an inning in Women’s cricket but also happens to be highest overall. In Men’s ODI cricket, the record for highest score is held by England team that scored 443 runs against Pakistan at Nottingham, in England in 2016.
