NZ win by 8 Runs | New Zealand vs Sri Lanka 1st T20I 2024 Highlights: Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell Shine With Bat While Jacob Duffy's Three-Wicket Over Hands Black Caps 1-0 Lead in Series

Jacob Duffy's over changed the dynamics of the match. Both sides now have an equal chance in the match. 29 needed from 18 balls with seven wickets in hand and Sri Lanka has a set batter - Pathum Nissanka who is looking to finish the match strongly and a century also. 

This has been a storyline of the match so far. After long partnerships, New Zealand lost their wickets in quick succession and now Sri Lanka also has lost three wickets in an over. Can this be a turning point in the match? Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, and Kamindu Mendis are back in the dressing room. 

Sri Lanka is in complete control of the match halfway into the second innings. Pathum Nissanka completed his half-century while Mendis is happy to play a 'passive role' in the partnership. The New Zealand skipper has tried six different bowlers but non proved effective against the Sri Lankan openers. 

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis are batting with a purpose and controlling the pace of the game. After six overs, Sri Lanka nearly has a 10-runs per over average putting them in a strong position to win the opening game of the series. New Zealand needs to break the partnership to get back into the match. 

Chasing 173 runs target, Sri Lanka needs a strong start and openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis have just delivered the same. Batting with confidence Mendis and Nissanka are stroking the ball well. Visitors will be pleased with the proceedings.

But after a successful review from the Asian side, and a flatter delivery on the middle, Phillips was quite a way down the wicket before he leant in looking to pull it across the line, he missed and was struck on the back hip. This is an attempt for a drive off the back foot, but he hardly got close to the ball, just hands going to the ball and he got sucked into the outswinger and kissed it to Kusal Mendis.
