The Day 1 of the IND vs NZ 1st Test 2024 was washed out due to rain without any ball being bowled. Day 2 had an early start but it proved out to be one of the worst nightmares for the hosts. The Rohit Sharma-led side was blown away for 46 runs in their first innings with the Kiwi pacers Matt Henry, William ORourke and Tim Southee dismantling the Indian batting lineup. The Kiwis started off well in their first innings with batters Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra showcasing brilliant batting approaches. Towards the end of Day 2, the Kiwis finished at 180/3 and led by 134 runs.

Day 3 started off with some early wickets for the Indian team wherein Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Kiwi batters quickly. While it seemed that the Kiwis may get wrapped up quickly, Tim Southee and Rachin Ravindra put up a brilliant partnership and helped the Kiwis put up 402 runs in the first innings. Ravindra smashed a brilliant century and played a knock of 134 runs from 157 balls. The Indian team showcased a better batting performance in the second innings and finished up Day 3 at 231/3 and trailed by 134 runs.

Day 4 started was started off by Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant. Both batters took on the Kiwi bowlers from the first ball with a bit of rain interruption throughout the day. Sarfaraz at one end slammed his maiden Test hundred whereas Pant missed out on a ton from just one run. At the end of the day the Indian team set a target of 107 runs for the Kiwis.

The start of Day 5 was delayed due to a bit of drizzle. However, as soon as the match started, it had a very dramatic beginning when Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Tom Latham on the very second ball of the day. The Indian duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj asked some tough questions from the Kiwi batters. However, despite facing tough time at the crease, the Kiwi batters kept on rotating the strike and which helped the scoreboard moving. This also didn't put much scoreboard pressure on the visitors. Devon Conway's 39 ball struggle at the crease and trapped him in front. At this moment the Indian team looked ahead in the match but Rachin Ravindra and Will Young had different plans.

The duo of Rachin Ravindra and Will Young added 75 runs from 92 balls which proved to be very decisive in the match. Young showcased brilliant determination from ball one and remained unbeaten on 44 runs, whereas, the Ravindra began to attack the Indian bowlers from the first ball and ensured that the Kiwis cross the line in the end and win the match by eight wickets.
