New Zealand batting pair of Joe Carter and Brett Hampton smashed world record 43 runs off one over during a domestic one-day cricket match while playing for Northern Districts against Central Districts in Hamilton on Wednesday. The duo slammed six sixes, including two off no-balls, a four and a single to milk the bowler for 43 runs. The bowler at the receiving end was South Africa-born fast bowler Willem Ludick.

Ludick in his nine over had given away just 42 runs apart from picking a wicket and then he returned with figures of 85 for one. Carter and Hampton broke the List A one-day record set by Zimbabwe's Elton Chigumbura while batting for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi against Abahani Ltd in the Dhaka Premier League. The Kiwi pair achieved the feat in the 46th over and tanks to their hard-hitting, Northern Districts posted 313 for seven in their allotted 50 overs. Carter finished with unbeaten 102 off 77 deliveries while Hampton scored 95 off 66 balls.

Interestingly, the duo added 178 for the sixth wicket in 21 overs, which now happens to be a team record. As far as International cricket is concerned. 36 are the most runs conceded in one over. While Herschelle Gibbs smashed six sixes in ODIs, India’s Yuvraj Singh emulated the feat in T20Is. In Tests, Brian Lara and George Bailey hold the record of most runs in one over. Both scored 28 runs from one over.
