West Indian cricketing legend Clive Lloyd has been bestowed with a knighthood in the New Years Honours list. The 75-year-old has been honoured for his service to the game and joins a long list of West Indian cricketers to receive this award which includes the likes of Sir Viv Richards, Sir Gary Sobers and Sir Everton Weekes. Four members of the 2019 World Cup-winning squad from England along with Coach Trevor Bayliss have also been honoured for their services towards cricket. Captain Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler are the players named on the New Year Honours list. The Guyanese-born international played for West Indies since 1966 and captained the side from 1974 until 1985. Clive Lloyd debuted for West Indies in 1966 vs India as was the first cricketer from the Caribbean side to earn 100 international caps. He was one of the most dominant Test captains of all time, during his captaincy the side had a run of 27 matches without defeat, which included 11 consecutive wins. Lloyd also captained the West Indies in three World Cups, winning the 1975 and 1979 edition while losing in the 1983 finals to India. The West Indian legend also played for the England county club Lancashire from 1968 to 1986 and was a key player in their 1970s side that was known as the ‘Kings of One Day Cricket’.
Trevor Bayliss who coached England to the 2019 World Cup win was awarded an OBE, while Eoin Morgan will receive the CBE award. World Cup hero Ben Stokes will be awarded an OBE award while Joe Root and Jos Buttler will be given the MBE honours.
