Cricket South Africa (CSA) is all set to introduce brand new franchise T20 league titled as Mzansi Super League (MSL T20). The 2018 Mzansi Super League will be the first edition of the tournament. The MSL T20 2018, which is scheduled to begin from November 16 onwards, will be played for a span of a month. The tournament will witness a total of 32 matches, including the final on December 16. Following six teams will compete in the inaugural edition of MSL T20- Cape Town Blitz (Newlands), Durban Heat (Kingsmead), Jozi Stars (Wanderers), Nelson Mandela Bay Giants (St George’s Park), Paarl Rocks (Boland Park) and Tshwane Spartans (SuperSport Park). Meanwhile, the winners of the MSL T20 2018 will take home a prize money of 7 million South African rands while the runner-up will pocket R2.5 million. The player of the tournament and man of the match awards will be worth R100000 and R15000 respectively.
MSL T20 2018 will be played in a double round-robin format. After the league stage, the team on top of the MSL T20 2018 points table will directly proceed to the final. The second and third placed teams will face off each other in a virtual semifinal and the winner will advance to the final. The MSL T20 2018 players draft was held in October and more than 200 overseas players confirmed their availability for the tournament. Some of the top cricketers to take part in the league include Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Eoin Morgan, and Samuel Badree. Apart from them, local stars like AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, and Dale Steyn will be seen in the action as well.
