Deepak Chahar’s Brilliance With The Ball
Chennai pacer Deepak Chahar finished with a spell of 3/26 in his quota of four overs to have the Mumbai Indians’ batsmen on the mat in the first innings. His impeccable line and length on a pitch that had something to offer for the bowlers was exemplary. His wickets included that of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya who had been in fine form throughout 2019 IPL.
Imran Tahir Finishes With The Purple Cap
Veteran South African spinner Imran Tahir finished the tournament with the Purple Cap when he picked up the wickets of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. With 26 wickets in 17 matches at a strike rate of 14.84, Tahir showed age is just a number if you can keep yourself fit and motivated.
Suresh Raina’s Poor Show
CSK vice-captain Suresh Raina may have won a lot of games single-handedly for his team but looked horribly out of sorts against Mumbai. He struggled against both pace and spin throughout his 14-ball stay at the wicket. A poor review meant CSK could not go to the DRS during the closing stages which made matters worse.
Shane Watson and His Love For Finals
It was only due to a brilliant 80 off 59 balls from Shane Watson that Chennai got near the target and the defeat must have been pretty tough to take for the Australian batsman. He scored a brilliant century in last year’s final to take them home but could not repeat the bravado against Mumbai.
MS Dhoni’s Run Out
English umpire Nigel Llong must be a real confident man to give CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni run out in what looked like a very dubious call by the third umpire. Taking a quick double on an overthrow, Dhoni was adjudged short of the crease from a direct hit by Ishan Kishan. After several minutes of reading the footage, an OUT sign was displayed on the giant screen with CSK struggling at 73/3.
Jasprit Bumrah and His Fierce Art of Death Bowling
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah once again showed why he is considered the best in the world with a brilliant spell of 2/14. Whenever Chennai looked like getting away with the match, Bumrah would pile on the pressure.
Lasith Malinga’s Last Ball Magic
He may have gone for plenty early on in his spell, but a fast in-swinging yorker to Shardul Thakur proved to be the game-defining moment. But that again comes from years of playing T20 cricket which Lasith Malinga is quite adept at.
