Ravindra Jadeja is known as one of the best fielders in the world and MS Dhoni is one of the best wicketkeepers. And if the duo combines, the result is bound to be amazing. During the third One-Day International between India and Australia at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, Dhoni and Jadeja combined to pull off a sensational run out. During the 42nd over of Australia innings, Jadeja fielding at midwicket threw the ball towards Dhoni at striker’s end to run Glenn Maxwell out. Shaun Marsh and Maxwell were looking to steal a quick single but Jadeja was quick to respond.
The Indian all-rounder threw the ball towards the striker’s end but was slightly off target and Dhoni cleverly stretched his arm. In doing so, the ball deflected off Dhoni’s arm and went on to hit the stumps. The third umpire was pressed into the service and TV replays confirmed Maxwell was short of his crease. It was an important wicket at that time. Maxwell was promoted at number three after openers Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja shared 193 runs for the opening wicket. Maxwell’s promotion worked for Australia before he was sent back. The right-hander scored 47 runs off 31 balls and during his stay he slammed three fours and as many sixes.
Australia soon lost the momentum despite a good start and managed 313 in allowed 50 overs. At one stage, the visitors were looking set for the 350-run mark. Khawaja was top-scorer for Australia with 104 runs followed by Finch’s 93.
