MS Dhoni One Catch Away From Becoming The First Wicketkeeper to Achieve This Milestone
Dhoni also is amongst the keepers who have taken most number of catches in a match. The Indian keeper is joint-first with Adam Gilchrist, Matt Prior, AB de Villiers and Wesley Barresi.
When India square off against hosts South Africa in the third and final T20 International at Newlands in Cape Town, former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will have his eyes set on a milestone. MSD could well become the first wicketkeeper to complete 50 catches in T20Is. The Indian wicketkeeper currently has 49 catches against his name from 88 matches. Interestingly, West Indies’ Dinesh Ramdin is second on the list but is way behind Dhoni. The Windies keeper has 32 catches.
Apart from most catches, Dhoni has a chance to narrow the gap between him Kamran Akmal in the stumping column. The out of favour Pakistan wicketkeeper has 32 stumpings in his kitty and apparently leads the list in game’s shortest format. Dhoni needs four stumping to go past Akmal.
However, when it comes to overall dismissals in T20Is, Dhoni is head and shoulders above the rest. The World T20 winning captain has affected 78 dismissals thus far and is followed by Akmal with 60 at number two. Afghanistan’s Mohammad Shahzad takes the third spot with 52 dismissals.

All these have pouched four catches during a T20I match. Out of these, Gilchrist and Dhoni have twice taken four catches in a match. Interestingly, Dhoni achieved the feats during ICC World T20 2010 and 2012 against Afghanistan and Pakistan respectively. However, Dhoni has never affected more than two stumpings in his T20I career.
