The BCCI is reported to move back to the rule which mentions that players who have been retired for more than five years may be put into the uncapped players category.
Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction, sensational news has emerged for the Chennai Super Kings fans. As per a report by the Times of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to put MS Dhoni in the category of uncapped players when they announce the new rules and regulations for the IPL 2025 mega auction. The BCCI is expected to go back to its rule which has been in place since the inaugural edition of the tournament. The rule mentions that the players who have been retired for more than five years will be put in the uncapped category. This would mean that if MS Dhoni decides to play another season of the Indian Premier League he wouldn't be too expensive for the Chennai Super Kings management to retain him. An uncapped player can be retained for a price of INR 4 crore whereas MSD was retained at a price of INR 12 crore in IPL 2022. The CSK owners pushed for this rule during a meeting with the BCCI officials on July 31. Dhoni's last international match was against New Zealand in the ODI World Cup 2019 semi-final. While speaking to Times of India, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan revealed that he has no idea about the incident and the management has not requested the rule. The BCCI have not announced any rules yet and they may announce rules and regulations soon. He said, "I've no idea about it. We've not requested for it. They (the BCCI) have themselves told us that the 'uncapped player rule' may be kept, that's all. They (the BCCI) haven't announced anything as yet. The rules and regulations will be announced by the BCCI."
MS Dhoni is not only a player for the Chennai Super Kings but an emotion for the team fans. MSD has been among the legends of the Indian Premier League which has led his franchise to five cash-rich league titles. The Chennai Super Kings fans would want Dhoni for another season and if such happens it will be a delight for the CSK fans.
