MS Dhoni has been dropped from the upcoming T20 series against West Indies and Australia, which has led to mixed opinions from all cricket lovers and experts. While many said that it was not a wise decision to drop Dhoni, the others stated that the selectors needed to look beyond Dhoni. However, the former captain of India was quite cool about the idea of a second wicket-keeper in the T20s said the chief selector MSK Prasad. He also went on to explain the reason for Dhoni being dropped from the squad. MS Dhoni EXCLUDED From T20 Squad for Series Against West Indies and Australia; Virat Kohli Rested for Caribbean T20 Matches, Rohit Sharma to Lead the Team.
“We’re looking at a second ’keeper, so Rishabh Pant is there and DK (Dinesh Karthik) hasn’t done badly either... Both, therefore, are in the T20I squads which we announced late on Friday,” Prasad told The Telegraph. When asked if Dhoni was aware of the decision, he said, “Oh yes... Yes. I myself spoke to MS and I must say he was most gracious. I explained our need to look at a second ’keeper and MS graciously supported the idea.”
Both Pant and Karthik have done quite well in the recently. The 21-year-old who made his debut in England for the Test matches, had gained the confidence of the selectors and sealed a spot in the ODIs against West Indies. Whereas, Karthik too was fairly good with a few opportunities he got here and there in the ODIs. With Dhoni’s exclusion from the team, many cricketing fans and pundits have predicted that he might not feature in the 2019 World Cup. However, the selectors have time and again mentioned that Dhoni would be their first choice for the mega event scheduled to take place in England.
