MS Dhoni is not only one of the successful cricketers India has produced, but he happens to be the among the best captains as well. Born on 7 July 1981, Dhoni today turns 37. Besides his batting and wicketkeeping skills, Dhoni is known to have one of the best brains in the contemporary cricket. The former captain has often won team India many games with his astute thinking.

Dhoni besides on-field laurels has received many awards like the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2007, India's fourth highest civilian honour- Padma Shri in 2009 and country's third highest civilian honour- Padma Bhushan in 2018. Besides it Dhoni has won the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2008 and 2009. He was also named as the captain of the ICC World Test XI in 2009, 2010 and 2013. Three ICC Trophies: Dhoni is the only captain on the planet to win all three ICC trophies. He was India’s captain when the Men in Blue lifted the inaugural World T20 in 2007. In 2011, playing at home, India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup under Dhoni’s leadership. Highest Score by a Wicketkeeper in ODIs: In 2005 against Sri Lanka, Dhoni slammed unbeaten 183 off 145 balls to notch the highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs. The record still remains intact. In that match, Dhoni came to bat at number three.

Most Dismissals in T20Is: With 82 dismissals, Dhoni tops the list of most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20Is. He recently surpassed Kamran Akmal’s record of most stumpings in T20Is as well. During first India vs England T20I on July 03, 2018, Dhoni affected two stumpings to go past the discarded Pakistani wicketkeeper. Dhoni now has 33 stumpings. Most Successful Indian Captain: Dhoni, who no more leads team India, has a success rate of 45% in Tests that puts him ahead of Saurav Ganguly. In 60 Tests as captain, Dhoni has helped India win 27. Under his leadership, India lost 18 and drew and 15. Ganguly managed to win 21 out of 49 Tests. In ODIs, Dhoni has a win percentage of 59.57%, winning 110 matches out of 199. I game’s shortest format, India have won 41 out of 72 matches under Dhoni.

500 International Matches: During second India vs England T20I on July 06, 2018, Dhoni became the third Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to feature in 500 international matches. He became the 10th international player to reach the milestone. Dhoni has played 90 Tests, 318 ODIs, and 92 T20I games.
