The bowlers's estranged wife Hasin Jahan commented and his family in his paternal village of Amroha celebrated the fast-bowler's feat in the world cup.

The pacer's performance is being praised by all and his family as well as the paternal village is proud of their son's achievement at cricket's biggest event. Mohammed Shami's estranged wife Hasin Jahan, talking to Hindi daily Amar Ujala, without naming the player said that it is a matter of great pride when players do well for their country in the world cup. Shami's wife added that if India wants to win the world cup, the players have to maintain the rich form.
Not just Mohammed Shami's family, but also his paternal village of Alipur in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, was praying for Shami and India's success in the match against Afghanistan. Shami's brother Haseeb Ahmed was quoted saying by the Times of India that the entire village and the family burst into celebration as soon as Shami bowled the last Afghanistan player to help India win.
India entered the match against Afghanistan at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground, Southampton on Saturday as firm favourites. However, the Afghan Atalans gave India a royal scare as they restricted team India to 224/8 in 50 Overs. Chasing the score, Mohammad Nabi of Afghanistan hit a four on the first ball of Shami's over as 16 were needed off last six deliveries. However, Shami made a sensational comeback as he claimed three wickets in three balls to help India win by 11 runs.
