Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami was on Thursday charged by the Kolkata police in sexual harassment case and for demanding dowry. Shami’s estranged wife Hasin Jahan had last year in March lodged a complaint against the cricketer. “A chargesheet has been filed against cricketer Mohammed Shami. He has been charged under IPC 498A (dowry harassment) and 354A (sexual harassment),” reported ANI.

The chargesheet reportedly has been submitted at Alipore court. “I have been told that police have submitted the chargesheet mentioning IPC sections 498A (domestic violence) and 354A (sexual harassment). My lawyer is out of station and I don’t have details,” Hasin Jahan was quoted as saying by Hindustan TimesMohammed Shami Real Birthday: BCCI’s Official Website Lists Fast Bowler’s Wrong Birth Date!

Shami’s relationship with Hasin Jahan hit the low when last year the latter alleged that the cricketer has an extramarital affair. Shami, however, denied the allegations and said it was done to ruin his career. In April last year, Hasin Jahan also filed a petition against her husband at a Kolkata court seeking monthly maintenance of one million Rs. for her and the couple’s daughter. Mohammed Shami Donates to Families of Pulwama Martyrs.

Shami’s wife had also accused him of match-fixing and age-fudging. Following the allegations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) omitted Shami from the central contracts list. However, Shami was given a clean chit by the board and recently he received a Grade A contract, which amounts to INR five Crores as an annual retainer fee. Meanwhile, Shami is set to be named in Indian squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which starts in May.
