Mohammad Naim Hits Maiden International Fifty To Keep Bangladesh in Hunt For First T20I Series Win Against India

Mohammad Naim scored his maiden international half-century to keep Bangladesh in the hunt of clinching its first-ever T20I series win against India. Naim, who made his international debut against India in the first T20I at Delhi, scored his maiden fifty in T20I cricket off just 34 deliveries, which comprised off six boundaries and a big hit over the fence. Naim got to his landmark in style after hitting Washington Sundar for a boundary in 11th over of Bangladesh’s innings. Naim initially started slowly and at one stage was on eight runs from 15 deliveries before smashing Yuzvendra Chahal for a hat-trick of boundaries to get going. His first boundary in the 3rd and final T20I game at Nagpur came in the sixth over and until then the left-hander had played seven dot balls and taken eight singles. His innings really started with the boundary against Chahal in the opening delivery of the sixth over. The youngster followed three successive boundaries of Chahal with a double boundary against Shiva Dube to unsettle the new bowler. From eight runs from 15 deliveries, Naim went 32 off 24 deliveries with the last 24 coming from only nine deliveries. Earlier, Shreyas Iyer produced a brilliant maiden T20I fifty and KL Rahul scored his sixth half-century as India posted 174/5 in 20 overs. Bangladesh started well with Shafiul cleaning Rohit for just two runs before sending his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan back to leave India stuttering at 35/2 in 5.2 overs. But KL Rahul (52) and Iyer (62) shared a 60-run stand for the third wicket before Rahul departed trying to clear the boundary.

With Rahul’s dismissal, Iyer took on the mettle of scoring quickly and dealt more in boundaries. His fifty came from only 25 deliveries, with Iyer making 62 off 33 deliveries that comprised off three fours and five mammoth sixes. Later Manish Pandey made a quick-fire 22 to take India past the 170-run mark.
