Mohammad Naim scored his maiden international half-century to keep Bangladesh in the hunt of clinching its first-ever T20I series win against India. Naim, who made his international debut against India in the first T20I at Delhi, scored his maiden fifty in T20I cricket off just 34 deliveries, which comprised off six boundaries and a big hit over the fence. The youngster followed three successive boundaries of Chahal with a double boundary against Shiva Dube to unsettle the new bowler. From eight runs from 15 deliveries, Naim went 32 off 24 deliveries with the last 24 coming from only nine deliveries. Sundar was dispatched for a biggie over his head to help Naim and Mithun bring up their fifty-run stand for the third wicket. Earlier, Shreyas Iyer produced a brilliant maiden T20I fifty and KL Rahul scored his sixth half-century as India posted 174/5 in 20 overs. Bangladesh started well with Shafiul cleaning Rohit for just two runs before sending his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan back to leave India stuttering at 35/2 in 5.2 overs. But KL Rahul (52) and Iyer (62) shared a 60-run stand for the third wicket before Rahul departed trying to clear the boundary.
With Rahul’s dismissal, Iyer took on the mettle of scoring quickly and dealt more in boundaries. His fifty came from only 25 deliveries, with Iyer making 62 off 33 deliveries that comprised off three fours and five mammoth sixes. Later Manish Pandey made a quick-fire 22 to take India past the 170-run mark.
