It is Mithali Raj’s birthday today. The senior Indian women’s cricketer, who was born on December 03 1982, turns 36. Mithali is the highest run-getter in the history of women's ODI (One Day International) cricket and one her birthday none other than master blaster Sachin Tendulkar wished her. "Happy Birthday, @M_Raj03! Have a fantastic year ahead and keep making India proud. #HappyBirthdayMithali,” wrote Tendulkar on his Twitter. Apart from Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina wished Mithali on her 36th birthday. “Happy birthday to the @BCCIWomen skipper @M_Raj03 ! Keep breaking barriers and making India proud. God bless,” Tweeted Harbhajan. Raina wrote, “Here’s to India's legendary cricketer, @M_Raj03 . Wishing you a very Happy birthday, have a great day today! Keep the runs coming.”
Mithali is regarded as one of the finest women cricketers India has produced. She is the first female cricketer to score over 6000 runs in ODIs. In 197 ODIs, she has scored 6550 runs at an average of 51.17. Mithali has so far captained India in 120 matches, the most by any player in women’s ODIs. The right-handed batter made her India debut in 1999 against Ireland in ODIs. In her first outing for India, Mithali scored a century and is one of the five women’s cricketers to have scored a hundred on an ODI debut. Mithali holds the record of most half-centuries in women’s ODI. She has notched 51 half-centuries so far. She has seven ODI centuries against her name, the most by an Indian in women’s ODIs.

Despite scoring two back to back half-centuries Mithali was made to sit out. India lost the semis and were eliminated from the tournament. She eventually responded by lashing out at the then coach Ramesh Powar and Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji for being bias.
