Michael Holding has been in the eye of the storm ever since the beginning of the third Test Match at Nottingham. On the first day, itself he took a jibe at the Indian cricketers who were spotted wearing a black band on their sleeves. The Indian cricketers wore the band for paying tributes to the late Ajit Wadekar. Holding said, “Indian players are wearing the black band not because they are 0-2 down.” This statement angered the netizens and they slammed the West Indian. Holding once again was slammed by netizens for his comments on Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah.
Holding had criticised Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the third match. He questioned Pandya’s selection and said that he is nowhere closer to Kapil Dev. He also spoke about Bumrah and called him 'not a new ball bowler'. Both emerged to be the heroes of the match by claiming 5 wickets in the match and thus their performance helped India clinch a 203 run victory over England. His statements did not go down well with the netizens and they trolled him left right and center.
Venting out their anger on social media. Check out a few tweets below:
“If Holding faced the same level of scrutiny he applies to Indian cricketers, he would have been dropped from the commentary box by now for failing to get any predictions right and having little idea on how the modern game works,” read a tweet.
“Great players don't always make great analysts or coaches. Greg Chappell and Michael Holding are examples. Alan Wilkins never played Tests but would hold his word in higher regard anyday,”read a tweet.
Another netizen wrote, “He always criticizes opposition team and showers full of praise for host who hires him in comm box, Paid bunny of @SuperSportsTV @SkyCricket . And get paid extra for criticizing team India !”
“No Michael Holding. Pandya hasn’t forgiven you yet,” read another tweet.
“Virat hopes Michael Holding tells him that RCB can't win IPL,” read a post.
With this, India won the game by 203 runs and has scripted their comeback in the series by 1-2. Indian captain Virat Kohli dedicated his victory to Kerala flood victims. India will now play the fourth test match on August 30 at Southampton.
